We have an exciting position for a BI Developer who will be responsible role to develop software systems in support of business improvement, with a key focus on technological optimization

Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Description

As a BI Developer, you will provide integrated planning services as required and your responsibilities will include: 

  • Researching, designing, implementing and managing software programs
  • Testing and evaluating new programs
  • Identifying areas for modification in existing programs and subsequently developing these modifications
  • Determining operational practicality
  • Developing quality assurance procedures in line with Global IM practices
  • Deploying software tools, processes and metrics
  • Maintaining and upgrading existing systems
  • Training users
  • Working closely with other developers, business and systems analysts
  • Development of reports as needed by business on approved business intelligence toolsets
  • Applying the necessary data quality control and change control on new reports and developments
  • Alignment with Global IM – procedures, standards and best practices and Global data science procedures, standards and best practices
  • Alignment with Corporate governance guidelines on OM related systems and support
  • Tasks listed are consistent for all LoW II leadership roles, certain leadership tasks may not be applicable for specialist roles
  • Drive delivery the sustainability activities as relevant to discipline and to improve sustainability performance over time
  • Manage compliance with requirements as relevant to discipline, including commitments to stakeholders
  • Identify risks triggered by or impacting on discipline and propose mitigation techniques to be incorporated in the risk management approach
  • Identify environmental and social opportunities relevant for work area and then introduce and monitor sustainability initiatives
  • Foster awareness of environmental and social sustainability within team and consider full impact of decisions
  • Participating in stakeholders’ engagements as relevant to discipline and act consistently with sustainability expectations
  • Tasks listed are consistent for all LoW II leadership roles, certain leadership tasks may not be applicable for specialist roles
  • Support the development of, and ultimately implement, a purpose-led, high-performing culture within the teams that is aligned with the company values, is inclusive and promotes diversity
  • Act as a role model and actively engage as a team member in all team processes
  • Implement effective team leader and team member processes. Set clear and consistent expectations, encourage teams to challenge the status quo and strive for improvements
  • Ensure that the discipline specific systems, symbols and behaviours reinforce desired culture and align with Anglo American values
  • Implementing management processes for employee & contractor management within work area
  • Effectively allocate authorities and resources (time, people and budget)
  • Managing compliance of the teams within work area with external (legislative, regulatory, permitting) local requirements as a minimum level of site performance
  • Adhere to Anglo American compliance requirements and ensure compliance of teams within work area

This role is in the Mining department at a Band 6 level reporting to the Section Manager Technology and DA

Qualifications

  •  A Bachelor’s Degree, B-Tech or National Higher Diploma in computers science or equivalent NQF level 7 Qualification
  • 5 years high level of experience in programming and scripting
  • Advanced C#, C++ Coding, SQL scripting skills
  • Python knowledge would be an advantage
  • Cloud computing – Azure knowledge
  • Tableau & Power Bi expertise
  • Expert on Microsoft suite of software
