Credit & Risk & Underwriting Manager

Our client is a well-known financial services organisation offering a wide array of services and solutions to consumers throughout South Africa.

They wish to appoint an experienced credit and risk and underwriting manager to lead operations in their loan portfolio.

The credit and risk and underwriting manager will oversee all credit and risk and underwriting management operations in their loan portfolio, ensuring adherence to both internal and external regulatory standards.

This critical role balances risk with business growth, safeguarding their financial health and maintaining compliance within the dynamic landscape of the South African financial services industry.

The ideal candidate will be a graduate with solid credit and underwriting and risk management operations experience.

Leadership and management experience in the credit and risk operations environment is mandatory.

Key Performance Areas
• Credit Risk Management: Develop and refine credit policies and risk models to meet industry standards, conduct thorough credit analysis, and set informed credit limits.
• Risk Assessment: Proactively identify and mitigate diverse risks, maintaining continuous monitoring and reporting systems to inform decision-making and strategy adjustments.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all lending activities comply rigorously with South African laws and regulations, staying ahead of legislative changes and maintaining transparent communication with regulatory bodies.
• Team Management: Lead the credit and risk management team towards excellence, providing training, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a key point of contact for risk communication within the company and with external partners, aligning risk management strategies with broader business objectives.

Candidate Specification
• Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or Risk Management. Certifications such as Certified Risk Analyst (CRA) or Certified Credit Professional (CCP) are preferred.
• Experience:
• At 10 least years in a similar role within the financial services or lending industry, with a proven track record in developing risk models and managing a team.
• Leadership and Management:
• At least 5 years of solid experience leading a team of credit and underwriting and risk professionals.
• Skills:
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, proficient in statistical tools, with a comprehensive understanding of the South African financial regulatory framework.
• Other:
• Fluent in English.
• Established computer literacy.
• Financial acumen and numeracy.
• Well-developed stakeholder management skills.
