Metallurgical Coal
Metallurgical coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.   In Australia, we operate two open cut and three underground metallurgical coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, every year producing millions of tonnes of the highest quality hard coking coal for this purpose.

Job Description

As the Mining Engineer, you will coordinate mine planning activities and be accountable for delivery of Business Plan and Monthly Operating Plan mine planning inputs. You will also be accountable for compilation and facilitation of the Grosvenor mine 90 Day Plan.  This will be achieved through application of the Anglo American Operating Model (AAOM), monitoring and analysis of mine performance and also execution of assigned projects. 

 Other duties include, but are not limited to

  • Deliver best practice mining engineering services and support to the mine, supporting Zero Harm by ensuring compliance with all safety systems and legislation.
  • Plan and coordinate mine planning and production review meeting engaging all relevant site stakeholders
  • Contribute to the effective management of ventilation, gas, mine planning, and technical projects.
  • Support designated process coordinators and interact effectively with the Operations team.  


  • Degree qualified Mining Engineer (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 5 years’ operating experience in UG coal mining
  • A detailed understanding of the coal mining processes
  • Working knowledge of relevant mining legislation and its application
  • A high level of planning and problem-solving ability
  • Previous experience with mine planning tools, such as XPAC, AutoCAD, Deswick
