We have an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Hygiene Assistant that will be responsible for assisting the Occupational Hygienist in maintaining Occupational Hygiene and Ventilation systems and programmes to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. Job Description

As an Occupational Hygiene Assistant your responsibilities will include:

  • Setting daily, weekly, and monthly confined space management and occupational hygiene (incl. public health) routine schedules
  • Promoting health and occupational hygiene awareness
  • Advising on changes to plans and schedules to minimise the effect of unexpected or unsafe work practices
  • Preparation of sampling equipment and conducting Occupational Hygiene monitoring and sampling
  • Reporting on findings as part of the monitoring programme
  • Participate in investigations and follow-up actions to assist the process to find ways of mitigating these potential findings under the supervision of the Occupational hygiene Technologists/Hygienist
  • Conducting confined space measurements and clearances as per the confined space procedures and Standby schedule

This role is in the Occupational Hygiene Department at a C2 level reporting to the Occupational Hygienist.


  • Grade 12
  • COM (Chamber of Mines) Intermediate Certificate in Mine Environmental Control
  • Valid driver’s license


  • Certificate in basic Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene measurements
  • Registration with the South African Institute of Occupational Hygiene (SAIOH) assistant level
  • Studying towards an environmental health (occupational hygiene/public health) degree or diploma


At least 2 years in the mining and/or refining environment of which practical experience of at least 1 year in occupational hygiene, ventilation management or health field.
