Main Purpose of the Job:

Reporting to the Executive Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for the management of processes and activities of a large group of employees engaged in performing a variety of production operations.

The role involves maintaining and implementing company policies, procedures, standards, and driving the disciplines of World Class Manufacturing principles.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Performance Activities (inclusive but not limited to):

Manage, monitor, and evaluate production processes to meet production targets

Oversee day-to-day management of production personnel, their development, and overall performance

Manage, oversee, and report on product quality parameters

Develop, implement, and maintain improvements in people, plant, machinery, and equipment efficiency

Manage raw material stock levels

Enforce safety practices and actively promote plant safety and environmental programs

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

Sound management and leadership skills

Strong knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies and lean manufacturing principles

Excellent interpersonal skills

Excellent understanding of Bill of Materials (BOM’s)

Knowledge and ability to apply Total Production Management principles

Numerical skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Afrikaans and English

Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and react with a strong sense of urgency

Systematic, neat, and methodical

Strong fault-finding, problem-solving, and organizational skills

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as function well within a team

Self-motivated, disciplined, and enthusiastic with high levels of drive and energy

Pro-active and dynamic

Excellent attendance track record

Attention to detail

Dependability

Computer literacy (MS Office: Outlook, Excel)

Adaptability and flexibility

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements:

South African Citizen

Degree or Diploma in Production / Operations Management / Engineering

8-10 years working experience in a manufacturing environment, with 5 years at management level in a middle to large-scale manufacturing concern

Proven track record of prior performance

Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a large group of employees

Strong background in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing

Willingness to work shifts and overtime as required

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

Ability to remain in a standing position for extended periods

Capacity to work in various environmental conditions with exposure to heat and dust elements
