De Beers

Venetia Mine is South Africa’s most valuable diamond mine. As we develop the mine underground, it is also one of the largest infrastructure projects in the country. Venetia Underground Project (VUP) is a complexed underground mechanised development, shaft and mine construction project to deliver an operational Sub Level Cave mine operation.  Experienced and effective management and control of the project works and mining operations through major contractors (EPC, Mining Contractor) and owner functions is essential for Safe, timely and effective delivery of the project.


Job Description

  • Develop procedures to enhance the maintenance cycle of plant equipment.
  • Continuous development of condition monitoring programs to support operational plans
  • Perform Vibration Analysis, Oil Analysis, Oil Filtration, Thermography, NDT Testing, failure investigation, and Root Cause Analysis
  • Based on KPI measures, identify maintenance activities downfalls and equipment downtime and breakdowns causes and implement improvement plans
  • Synthesize complex data into recommendations for Planners and Schedulers
  • Develop and implement systems for reviewing, trending, and history on equipment.

This role is in the AS&R Department at the Global Band Framework 6 and reports to the Senior Engineer Asset Management


  • B.Eng. degree/Higher Diploma /N6 Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
  • Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ESCA) will be advantageous

Additional Information

  •  At least seven years post Engineering qualifications experience in reliability engineering role of which five years’ experience was gained in a leadership position
  • Experience in defect elimination for diverse plant processing equipment including fixed surface plant associated with an underground mine
  • Management of various Condition Monitoring disciplines such as vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, and structural/airborne ultrasound to assess machine condition and drive predictive maintenance tactics
  • Experience with use of smart machine systems such as Mtell-Aspentech as a predictive tool.
